Pastoral Support

At Stony Dean School we are committed to the well being of the whole pupil and have a strong pastoral support programme. Pupils can not learn effectively without feeling confident and resilient, our pastoral support aims to support pupils mental and emotional health to help them manage the demands of everyday life. Our provision is wide ranging and depends on the needs of the pupils.

Universal Provision (provided to all)

  • Tutor and Head of Year support
  • L4L (Learning for Life) lessons
  • Access to the Hub
  • Access to sensory equipment (in the classroom and outside)
  • Assemblies that address pastoral issues, safeguarding and attitudes
  • Emotional regulation work (zones of regulation)
  • Parent coffee mornings and education sessions
  • School trips
  • Mentoring 1-1 with tutor or other trusted adult (talk time)
  • Tutor time program
  • Clear behaviour expectations (anti bullying and positive behaviour policy)
  • Attendance monitoring and support, parent liaison
  • PEBLES and reward system
  • Safeguarding support
  • EHCP lessons (getting to know me sessions)
  • Therapy dogs
  • Team building days
  • STEM days

Targeted Provision (provided to those that need it for a set amount of time but not available to all)

  • EBSA team support
  • Link Programme (adapted timetable to support emotional/medical needs)
  • Use of sensory rooms
  • Hub support with individual programme may include (bush craft, equine sessions, farm visits, bouldering, cooking, fishing, sports coaching, gym work, Aylesbury Youth Motor Project sessions, Animal Antiks sessions, HorseWyse sessions or workshop sessions)
  • Specific 1-1 or small group sessions (may include interoception work, emotional regulation sessions, sex and relationship sessions or anxiety support)
  • Social interaction group (lunchtimes)

Specialist Provision (usually 1-1 with a trained specialist)

  • Counselling with one of our school counsellors
  • Play therapy
  • Art therapy
  • Talk and Draw sessions
  • Autistic Teaching Company tutor support
  • Mental Health Support Team (NHS) sessions (1-1 or family sessions)
  • Creative music sessions
  • CAMHS referrals
