Staff Testimonials

We are incredibly lucky at Stony Dean to have such a supportive and caring staff.  They are also proud of their school and the students in it.  There is a culture of continuous learning and development at the school and staff want to ensure they are at the top of their game.  They work collaboratively with a range of specialists to make this happen.  This is what our staff have to say:

“Initially, I became an LSA as it fitted in with my family and the needs of my children. I have come to realise that I truly enjoy working with children from all backgrounds, cultures and needs. I am surprised by how much I have learnt from the children, as well as learning more about myself in the process. As a result of these factors, I have decided that I would like to become a Teacher, so I am now in the process of completing GCSEs in Maths and English, and thus beginning my route into a career in teaching.

I have been fortunate enough that since joining Stony Dean as an LSA, I have been allowed to take on more responsibilities, and am now also employed as a Cover Supervisor and Medical Assistant. Whilst working as a Cover Supervisor can be challenging, I welcome this aspect of the job, as it allows me to gain more experience, and has equipped me with new skills. Each day is different, I love the variation and having to often think on my feet. This current role has given me the motivation to strive to be the best I can possibly be. Indeed, it has confirmed my desire to become a Teacher in a Special Needs setting. My role expectations are to meet the individual requirements of students.

Every day is varied, busy, rewarding, challenging and fun. I love listening to the very frank comments of our lovely students. It is so rewarding seeing a child grow in confidence, laugh and smile, knowing I have made a difference.

The most challenging part of my job is dealing effectively, yet calmly, with behavioural issues. Sometimes the students need time to deal with their emotions, and I have learnt that each child must be approached differently. There is a time when it is necessary to ‘draw the line’ but in a diplomatic manner.

I find all elements of my role enjoyable; I love the variety and the fulfilment that I get from supporting students with their individual learning.”
